Britt Potman (2007) is an upcoming and talented Dutch rower, interested in joining a competitive college rowing team, in the fall of 2025. She is a versatile athlete, experienced in both sweep and scull rowing, fromsingle sculls to eights.
Britt started her athletic career in field hockey and judo, but found her true passion and promise when she made the transition to rowing. Starting in 2020, she joined rowing club R&ZV Daventria, located at the river IJssel in her hometown Deventer.
Britt about rowing:
“I love rowing for the technical bit of it; fine tuning my stroke and making it work in the boat with my teammates. I love the continuous improvement in the details and at the same time doing the hard work and pushing my body to become stronger. And on top of that, I really enjoy being active outside in nature."
Britt showed a lot of potential right from the start. Within a couple of months she progressed from beginner to winning her first race. The next spring was also very successful, winning 2k-races in single and double scull. However, Britt had to deal with setbacks too: in 2022 she fell while cycling and suffered a concussion. This had great implications for her 2023 spring season.
After getting well again, Britt worked hard to regain her confidence in the boat. The setback strengthened and matured her. She came back more determined and absolutely sure about wanting to become the best rower she can be. For this reason she transferred to another rowing club in the fall of 2023. R&ZV De Amstel in Amsterdam provides teammates of similar competence and drive, plus better training facilities. This transfer accelerated her progress and sees her competing successfully in the single sculls Dutch top 5 (U19) and joining the leading 4-boat in the country (U19), working together with her teammates to represent The Netherlands internationally coming summer.
Britt’s strengths as an athlete combines physical power with ambition, determination and a winning mentality. As a person she is an easy-going, spontaneous and social 17-year old, who loves to have fun with friends and teammates. Britt is confident that her planning skills and talent in science related subjects, will support her academic goals in physics and astronomy. All of this makes her a reliable student-athlete.
Britt has all the potential to become a top rower and being of great value to any aspiring university rowing team!
