Athletic Background

Henk-Gabriël has developed within some of the strongest basketball programs in the Netherlands. His early career included competing with Crackerjacks Amersfoort at the U12 level before moving to UBALL Utrecht, where he played Eredivisie basketball at U12 and U14 level. During this period, he was a finalist in the Men’s U14 Eredivisie, won a bronze medal in the U12 Eredivisie, and was nominated as Defensive Player of the Year at both U12 and U14 level.

He later joined CSE Landstede Hammers, progressing through the Eredivisie youth teams at U16, U18, U19, and U22 level, as well as competing in the Promotiedivisie and senior men’s basketball. He was a finalist in the national U16 cup, finishing as the team’s top scorer, and became the single-game top scorer of the U16 Eredivisie during the 2021–2022 season with 38 points.

Senior level

At the senior level, Henk-Gabriël currently competes in Men’s Senior 1st Division with Landstede Hammers Men 2 and has also made his debut in the BNXT League during the 2023–2024 season, the highest level of competition in the Netherlands and Belgium. He additionally reached the Dutch Supercup final, further underlining his exposure to elite competition.

Internationally, he has gained valuable experience through multiple appearances at the Lundaspelen tournament in Sweden, reaching the semifinals, as well as participating in international tournaments in Bruges. He also completed a basketball internship with a German Pro A organization, the VfL SparkassenStars Bochum, giving him firsthand experience in a professional European environment. In addition, he undertook an extra basketball internship in Spain with CB Breogán in Lugo, where he trained alongside and gained experience from an ACB-level player and coach, further expanding his exposure to elite European basketball culture and coaching.

High Performance Experience

Henk-Gabriël represented the Netherlands as part of Team NL U15 and U16 between April and August of 2021 and 2022. These high-performance national team programs contributed significantly to his tactical understanding, defensive discipline, and ability to perform in structured, high-intensity environments.

Strengths

Henk-Gabriël’s strongest asset is his defensive ability. He uses his long reach, quick reactions, and strong footwork to guard multiple positions and disrupt opponents. Offensively, he is a reliable shooter with solid shooting mechanics and confidence in his shot. His basketball IQ allows him to read the game well, anticipate plays, and position himself effectively on both ends of the floor. He plays with visible confidence and composure, showing leadership through non-verbal communication and actively coaching teammates during defensive possessions.

Areas to Improve

Henk-Gabriël is focused on improving his explosiveness, particularly in jumping situations, to become more dynamic around the rim. He is also working on his ball handling in transition and fast-break situations to increase his effectiveness as a creator. Additionally, he aims to add physical strength and mass to better handle the demands of high-level professional basketball.

Henk-Gabriël’s goal is to turn his current areas of improvement into strengths and continue developing as a complete player. He is motivated to learn how to adapt to different basketball cultures and environments while pursuing growth as a professional basketball player at the highest possible level.
