About Joy Cashoek

Athletic Background

Joy has been a member of Kinheim since 2013 and has helped her team to several championship titles. She was part of the U15 team that won the Dutch national championship in 2021, the U21 championship team in 2022, and the Dames 2nd Division champions in 2024; earning promotion to the First Division for the 2025 season.

In addition to her softball career, Joy also played three years of baseball and gained athletic variety by competing in field athletics for two years, further strengthening her speed, explosiveness, and all-around athleticism.

Internationally, Joy has gained high-performance experience through the Little League system. In 2024, she led team Kennemerland to the Dutch national title in the Seniors division. Following that, she was selected for the national Little League team based on performances across all Dutch teams. With this squad, she became European Champion in the Czech Republic and went on to represent the Netherlands (Europe/Africa) at the Senior League World Series in the US, where they placed 5th out of 10. In the summer of 2025, Joy won a bronze medal at the European Championships with the Dutch National U18 team.

Strengths

Joy brings an elite combination of speed, power, and tactical awareness to the field. Her quickness stands out as a defining feature of her game—allowing her to steal bases with ease, beat infield throws, and turn routine hits into extra-base opportunities. Despite not being the tallest player, she compensates with remarkable strength and explosiveness. Her swing generates powerful contact, and her strong throwing arm allows her to make outs from deep in the outfield with confidence.

Her preferred position is in the outfield, where her speed, arm strength, and field awareness allow her to cover ground efficiently and make high-level plays.

Academics

Joy graduated Cum Laude from the VWO in the summer of 2025 at the highest level of secondary education in the Netherlands, demonstrating both academic discipline and intellectual ability. She also holds a Cambridge English C2 certificate, reflecting her advanced proficiency in English.

In addition to her academic success, Joy has shown commitment to athletic development at the national level. Last year, she began training part-time with Talent Team NL (TTNL), attending practices three times per week alongside her normal team training, gym sessions and schoolwork. This year, she has taken the next step by joining the program full-time, relocating to live and train in Amsterdam on-site. With access to high-level coaching and individualized guidance, Joy will train up to nine times per week, building both her physical and mental performance in a high-performance environment.

Goals

While Joy is currently focused on excelling as an outfielder in pursuit of her US goals, she’s also working to expand her versatility by gaining more experience in the infield and catching. This broader skill set will help her grow into a more complete and adaptable player. At the same time, she is refining advanced outfield techniques, including tracking balls near the fence and executing over-the-shoulder catches—skills that are crucial at higher levels of play.

Joy looks forward to learning new skills, gaining valuable experience, and growing both as an athlete and as a person within a competitive sports culture. Her time in the US will also serve as a steppingstone in preparing for future Dutch national team selections, such as the U22 or Senior A team. Equally important to her is completing a high academic degree, combining her passion for sport with a strong academic program that fits her level.

Joy’s goal is to contribute as a high-impact outfielder at the collegiate level while continuing to grow as a student-athlete.
