    About Laura Loycke

    Background
Laura was born in Germany and started playing field hockey at an early age. At age 10, Laura moved to Australia and continued her education and field hockey career there. After moving back to Germany at age 15, Laura continued to travel a lot and has been interested in international experiences from all over the world. Her current bachelor studies allowed her to take courses on three different continents, at multiple different internationally acclaimed universities. Over the years, Laura also participated in several different sports in the different countries, such as tennis, softball, soccer, lacrosse, track & field, and more.

    Field hockey level
The main sport for Laura has always been field hockey. Laura currently plays in the 2. Bundesliga in Germany for Eintracht Braunsweig, competing at one of the highest levels of women’s field hockey in Germany. Over the years, she has played for clubs across Germany, the United States, France, Australia and Singapore, consistently adapting to different playing styles and performing in competitive environments. In 2023, Laura also played in the USA for UCLA Club Field Hockey and Oh Yeah Premier with whom she won the Women’s League.

    Playing style
Laura combines strong 3D elimination skills with excellent game awareness and composure on the ball. She plays with her head up, quickly recognizing opportunities to pass or finish. She has the ability to cut on an angle and go with speed. Off the ball, Laura is aggressive in her pressing, supports her teammates well, and maintains a high work ethic throughout every match. She is highly motivated and focused on continuous improvement, especially when it comes to technical repetition and refining her attacking play. Due to her having played in different countries, with different game philosophies, Laura has the ability to adapt quickly to new strategies and combine different playing styles in her own game.

    High performance
Laura represented Victoria State (U13 & U15) in both outdoor and indoor Hockey Australia Championships from 2014 to 2019 and was selected for the U12 School Sport Victoria team, competing in national championships in 2015 and 2016. She played on Haileybury’s 1st Varsity Team and has earned numerous honors including Best & Fairest Player, Coach’s Award, and Rising Star at Southern United Hockey Club.

    Academics
Laura graduated high school in May 2022. She is currently in her final year of a bachelor’s degree in International Business through a global program spanning three continents. Her education has taken her to universities in France, Singapore and the United States, including a year at UCLA. Laura has at least one year of eligibility left and would like to obtain a (Sports Management related) masters degree from an American university.

Laura is excited to train more intensely and intentionally, continue developing her skills, and become a key player who contributes to her team’s success. Laura looks forward to learning from different coaches and teammates and experiencing the competitive environment of U.S. collegiate field hockey. After her time in the U.S., she hopes to return to Germany and continue playing at a high level in the Bundesliga, staying involved in the sport both professionally and personally.
