Pien Prins

Level

Pien has played at the highest levels of youth hockey most of her life (Landelijk). She started her playing career at a smaller local club at a young age and was selected to join the first selection teams at top club Laren around age 10, playing with the most talented players of her area since. During the 2022-2023 season, she played for Laren U16-1 in the National League (Landelijk), the highest level of youth hockey. She was a regular sub for the U18-1 team, and asked to join the team for the U18 National Championships. During the 2023-2024 season, Pien will be playing for Laren U18-1. They are expected to be one of the top contenders in the National League again.

Playing style

Pien is an intelligent and versatile player with a high hockey IQ. She has experience as a (central) midfielder, but also central defender. She is able to read the play and position herself in the right spot offensively and defensively. On offense, she knows when to receive strong and search for an easy outlet and distribution, or when to cut the lines and eliminate with speed. As a central defender, Pien is always able to find her teammates with accurate and well executed passes and know when to run forward with the ball and move up the field. On defense, Pien has the patience skills to force turnovers from her direct opponents. She excels in finding the open spaces on the field to run or pass into.

High performance

Pien was selected to the NLU15 in 2021-2022 and was asked to participate in the tryouts outs for the U16 team as one of the standout players of the U15 team. She was selected to the U14 district team in 2020-2021, allowing her to practice and play with the best players of her region's age group.

Additional athletic information

Pien was named captain of her club team (Laren U16-1) during the 2022-2023 season, allowing her to grow her leadership skills. Pien’s indoor team placed for the National Indoor Championships for U16 teams in 2023 and made it to the Elite 8. Pien became national champion 3v3 hockey, in an additional tournament, in 2019.

Academics

Pien is a strong and motivated student, and expected to graduate the highest level of Dutch high school (VWO/Gymnasium) in 2025. She is part of the Debate Team during the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school year. She's expected to take the SAT and Duolingo in the Spring and/or Fall of 2024.
