Level
Sam currently plays for Schaerweijde U18-1, a top Dutch youth team competing in the Landelijk league, the highest level of youth field hockey in the Netherlands. Before being selected for Schaerweijde, Sam played for HC Eemvallei (mostly in the Topklasse/Subtopklasse), where she was a key player and team captain. During that time, she also trained and competed with the Women 1 team, gaining valuable experience against senior-level players and adapting to a faster, more physical style of play. Wanting to challenge herself further, Sam decided to try out for Schaerweijde, where she now competes and continues to develop her skills among some of the strongest youth players in the country.

Playing style
Sam is a quick, athletic, and skilled player who can play both as a forward and a midfielder. She plays with her head up and strong game awareness, allowing her to make fast, smart decisions under pressure. Sam is aggressive and intelligent in pressing situations, using her speed, timing, and excellent ball control to win balls and transition quickly into attack. She particularly excels in circle entries from the right side, where her speed and poised decision-making make her an attacking threat. Additionally, Sam is a reliable stopper on APCs. 

Academics
Sam is currently enrolled in VWO, the highest level of Dutch high school, and is expected to graduate in July 2026. 

Additional information
Sam stems from a very athletic family, teaching her what it takes to succeed in sports at a high level. Her father was a pro tennis player and won multiple national championships. He was ranked nationally and internationally and is currently the owner/coach of an esteemed Dutch tennis program. Sam’s sister is also a talented field hockey player. 

Sam is eager to improve her physical strength and continue developing into a well-rounded player with the guidance of top collegiate coaches.
