About Sara Verschure

Sara started playing field hockey at the age of four and has been active in the sport for 12 years. At 14, she committed to running as well, joining ACW ’66. Initially, she trained with an adult team and quickly stood out in cross-country races, leading her to move to Prins-Hendrik. There, she focused on shorter distances to improve her speed. In just two years of running, she has achieved personal bests in the 800 meters (2:19.92) and 1500 meters (5:07.26), and placed 8th at Nationals in cross-country.

Sara had an exceptional first cross-country season, winning her regional competition, becoming Brabant champion, and finishing 6th at the Dutch National Championships. Early in her running career, she also broke the 5km club record multiple times, showcasing her natural talent and rapid progress.

Sara credits her success to her perseverance and motivation. She stays focused and enthusiastic, handling the challenges of race preparation with ease. Her ability to maintain a demanding training schedule highlights her strong commitment and drive.

At the most recent Dutch Indoor Championships, Sara delivered an outstanding performance. In the qualification round, she placed 2nd in her heat with the 5th fastest overall time, setting a new personal record of 2:18.95. The next day, she ran an even stronger final, finishing 5th with another PR of 2:17.30—improving by more than 1.5 seconds in just one day. This achievement reflects her rapid progress and dedication to continuous improvement.

Sara has identified breathing control as an area she needs to work on. While she prepares well for races, she knows that better breath control during races and training sessions will help her run faster and achieve better results.

Her Personal Records (PBs):
5km: 19:06 (unofficial)

She values the camaraderie and loves training alongside her teammates and getting stronger everyday.
