About Sherryl Achterberg

Athletic Background
Sherryl began her athletic journey with standout performances. In her first year, she placed 5th nationally in the 150 meters and ran 8.38 in the 60 meters at just 12 years old. That same year, she was immediately scouted by national coach Rik Hardon during her first meet and invited to join the regional talent team for Gelderland and Overijssel. Since then, she has been part of the Regional Training Center (RTC) Overijssel for over six years, developing under elite coaching and training alongside the top talents in the region.

At 14, she broke the Twente regional and club indoor records with a 43.03 in her debut 300 meters, run in Germany. She was selected to compete in an international meet against Germany—a prestigious event featuring the top youth athletes from both countries.

She consistently ranks in the national top 10 in the 400 meters (U20 category) and, in 2022, won silver in the Dutch U18 4x100m relay. She also competes at the senior national championships, gaining valuable experience against the highest level of competition.

Strengths
Sherryl’s greatest strength lies in her mindset. She never misses a training session and gives 100% effort every time. Physically, she is exceptionally strong—able to squat over 120kg—which gives her powerful drive and speed. Her top-end speed is elite, highlighted by a 3.40 time in the flying 30 meters. She’s also a highly reliable and versatile relay runner, capable of running any leg in a 4×100 or 4×400 with confidence and consistency.

Goals
Sherryl is focused on improving her start out of the blocks, where she currently loses valuable time. Her sprint technique, particularly her knee lift, is another area she aims to refine. In addition, she’s working on managing pre-race nerves, which sometimes prevent her from performing to her full potential on race day. With better control and confidence, she believes she can run faster and more consistently.

She’s also excited to contribute to relay teams and experience high-level collegiate training. Ultimately, her goal is to return to Europe as a faster, smarter, and more resilient competitor.
