Anne van den Broek (2001) is a Dutch track athlete specialized in distance running and XC. She is interested in joining an ambitious college track and field team in the Fall of 2023.
Anne joined her local club team AV de Keien in 2015. She used to be a gymnast before, but has always been talented in running. While training with this team Anne eased into running slowly and progressively increased both her training volume and intensity. Over the past years she steadily improved her PBs in all events. In 2022 Anne started training with Atletiek Maastricht as well, as this club team is close to her university. Currently she doing lots of base training for the upcoming track season.
Her major strength is her discipline. Anne is a very motivated athlete and likes to work hard in order to achieve her goals. In addition to this, she also knows how to run her own race. Where lots of athletes have the tendency to take off too quickly during races, she manages to find her own pace and focuses only on herself. Besides being a powerful element, this is her pitfall too because Anne often feels like she still has something left when finishing a race. She is currently working to improve in this area by finding a balance between taking off unreasonably fast and too conservative. Another area of improvement is her mindset, as Anne tends to underestimate herself and gets very nervous before races. She got better at this already in her track races this past season (2022) and we strongly believe there is still much room for improvement if Anne keeps developing and working on these areas.
As soon as Anne started running track she made lot of progress very quickly. She steadily improved her 800m and 1500m times year by year. At the beginning of her career (2016) her PBs were 2:55,74 (800m) and 5:59,67 (1500m) respectively and, she significantly improved these times with multiple seconds each year since then. Her current PBs are: 800m: 2:26,55 (2022)1500m: 5:07,23 (2022)5k road: 20:39min (2021)In the USA, Anne would like to perform at her absolute best for her college track team and keep developing herself as an athlete. Besides this, her primary goal is to maintain finding joy in running together with a team of ambitious girls to train with. Anne graduated from the highest level of high school in The Netherlands (vwo) in 2019. Later on she got her Bachelors degree in Biomedical Science at Radboud University in Nijmegen. Anne is currently doing a master in Governance and Leadership in European Public Health and is expected to receive her Master’s diploma in the Spring of 2023. She is interested in doing another master in exercise/sports science, health policy, global health or something related.
