Merlijn currently plays for Volley Tilburg’s men’s second team as a middle blocker, competing in the Dutch second division. 

What makes his journey remarkable is that he has only been playing volleyball for about 2.5 years, having started in mid-2022. Despite his relatively short experience in the sport, he has already made significant strides, proving his potential and rapid growth as a player.

Approach touch:
– 11’2” attack reach height, 1 arm. 
– 10’8” block reach height, 2 arms. 

Merlijn’s biggest strengths are his reach and vertical jump, which make him especially dangerous in attacking situations. His ability to get above the net and execute powerful attacks sets him apart as a middle blocker.

While his technical skills continue to improve, Merlijn is also focused on strengthening his mental resilience and overall athleticism. His goal is to develop into the best player he can be by becoming more physically and mentally prepared for the challenges of high-level volleyball.

Currently in high school, Merlijn expects to graduate in June 2026. He has not yet decided on a major but is eager to explore academic and athletic opportunities in the U.S.
