The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is the best-known college sports organization in the United States. The NCAA organizes both regional and national college leagues and championships and is responsible for the three major sports divisions<\/a>: Division I, Division II and Division III. <\/p>\n\n

Different divisions in the NCAA<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Universities in Division I and Division II offer student-athletes the opportunity to receive both athletic scholarships(athletic scholarships<\/a>) and scholarships(academic scholarships<\/a>). In Division III, the emphasis is entirely on academic achievement and no athletic scholarships are issued. <\/p>\n\n

It is important to note that the divisional classification does not always say anything about a team’s actual athletic level. The classification is often based on factors such as school size, budget and the athletic programs of other teams such as American football or basketball. As a result, a team in Division II or III can certainly be equivalent or even stronger in terms of level than a team in Division I. <\/p>\n\n

Playing eligibility: eligibility<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Before you may play sports in America as a student-athlete<\/a>, you must be eligible to play<\/a>. The NCAA assesses whether you meet the requirements academically and athletically.
