Pien Elsen made the move from top field hockey in the Netherlands to college field hockey in the United States. The talented defender and midfielder played for HC Rotterdam MO18-1, the team that became national champions in 2023. Before that, she played for Leonidas MO18-1, where she was active at Super A level. Pien spent her entire youth playing hockey at the highest level, both on the field and in the hall. Her list of successes includes two national titles and an indoor championship. She also showed her technical class by becoming club champion shoot-outs and finishing as a finalist at the regional championship. <\/p>\n\n

A versatile player with discipline and insight<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

On the field, Pien excels through her speed, technique and game insight. She is very strong defensively and offensively and stands out because of her clever positioning. As a midfielder and defender, she has great running ability and is constantly developing herself. She trains extra on her running condition and technical skills and is known as an extremely disciplined and motivated team player. <\/p>\n\n

Academic talent with an international goal<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Pien is also very strong academically. She earned her VWO degree in June 2023 with a GPA<\/a> of 3.84. It quickly became clear that Drexel University in Philadelphia was the perfect match. The combination of a strong academic program and an ambitious field hockey team immediately appealed to her. Her goal was to gain international experience and continue to play at a high level while pursuing a quality education. That mission succeeded: Pien left for America in the summer of 2023 with a full scholarship<\/a> in her pocket. <\/p>\n\n

The Role of Slamstox<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Pien turned to Slamstox for full guidance during the process<\/a>. Choosing the right university was an important part, as was finding a balance between sports, studies and personal development. Pien was a spontaneous, enthusiastic and proactive athlete, which made working together enjoyable and effective. Although the distance from her family took some getting used to in the beginning, she quickly managed to adapt to her new environment in the US. <\/p>\n\n

A smooth transition and promising future<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

The transition to the American system went remarkably smoothly for Pien. From the beginning she was a good member of the Drexel University team and got many playing minutes. She quickly found her niche both on and off the field and was able to distinguish herself immediately thanks to her dedication and talent. The combination of academic development, international experience and athletic growth made her American adventure a success story. <\/p>\n\n

Ready for a glittering college career<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

With her strong background, professional attitude and dedication, Pien Elsen is ready to further shape her college career. She is determined to make the most of her time at Drexel University, both in college competition and in the college ranks.
