Jelle’s game is defined by his defensive intelligence and physical dominance. Strong in one-on-one duels, he defends with composure and confidence, using both his body and anticipation to win challenges cleanly and maintain control of the game. His positioning and awareness make him difficult to beat, while his timing in tackles and aerial ability add stability to the back line. In possession, Jelle displays excellent technical ability for a central defender, comfortable carrying the ball forward and initiating attacking plays. His long passing is a particular strength, often switching the play or finding teammates in advanced positions with precision.

A versatile and reliable player, Jelle has also demonstrated his adaptability in remarkable ways. During a crucial stretch last season, he temporarily took on the role of striker due to an injury within the team. Showing great intelligence and finishing ability, he recorded an incredible 22 goals/assists in just 11 games, helping VOC secure promotion to the highest level the club has competed at in the past 25 years. This achievement underlined not only his technical ability but also his leadership and mentality, qualities that have defined his career so far.

Jelle’s football journey includes valuable experiences at a high level. He previously played for FC Dordrecht in the Second Division and represented the KNVB at the U13 level, consistently competing against top opposition in the Netherlands. Throughout his youth career, he has always played in older age categories, pushing him to compete against physically and tactically stronger opponents. His leadership has also been a driving force for success, as team captain, he guided VOC to three consecutive promotions in as many seasons.

His success on the pitch is highlighted by several major achievements, including winning the Dutch Youth Cup and lifting the Rijnmond Cup twice,  two of the most prestigious youth tournaments in the Rotterdam region. Most recently, he added another KNVB Cup victory to his record, confirming his impact as both a leader and a winner.

Now back in his natural position as a centre back, Jelle continues to anchor the defense while contributing to his team’s build-up play and leadership dynamic. With his strength, tactical understanding, and ability to influence games on both ends of the pitch, he is a complete modern defender with the drive and mentality to keep progressing toward higher levels of competition.

Jelle is looking to join a competitive College program in the fall of 2027.
