About Lukas Vreeken

Lukas combines a strong physical profile with a highly competitive mindset and a willingness to put in the work required to reach the next level. He currently trains seven times per week and is highly motivated to continue improving his performance. His progression over the past year demonstrates both his athletic potential and his ability to respond to high-level coaching.

At 193 cm, Lukas already has a strong physical foundation for collegiate rowing and expects to continue growing beyond 2 meters while adding strength and body weight as he develops.

Recent Performance

  • Dutch U19 National Team – Coupe de la Jeunesse 2026, Quadruple Scull
  • 6:20.32 – 2,000m 4x, Bosbaan, May 2026
  • 6:27.3 – RP3, March 2026
  • 6th – A Final, Dutch Small Boats Championship Qualification, Single Scull, April 2026
  • 8th in the Netherlands – U16 Boys, NKIR Ergometer Championships, December 2025
  • Multiple A-final victories during the 2025–26 season across different boat classes and crew combinations

A particularly important part of Lukas’ development has been his experience racing outside his home club. During the spring of 2026, he partnered with a rower from another club in the double scull and successfully qualified for the Coupe de la Jeunesse. After the selection weekend, he continued racing in a quadruple scull with athletes from different clubs, gaining experience with new coaches, training environments, and teammates.

Lukas is also a versatile rower who has experience in both sculling and sweep rowing. In sweep rowing, he is comfortable rowing on both port and starboard, giving him the flexibility to adapt to different crews and coaching needs.

This adaptability is one of Lukas’ key strengths. He is highly coachable, eager to learn, and comfortable working with different athletes and coaching styles. He actively looks for opportunities to improve and is motivated by competing against the strongest athletes in his age group.

Lukas is also attracted to the team environment that makes collegiate rowing unique. While he is extremely competitive and wants to become as fast as possible, he values the social and team aspects of the sport just as much. He enjoys being part of a crew, contributing to a shared goal, and pushing himself alongside teammates.

With his 193 cm frame, national-team experience, consistent training commitment, and rapid development, Lukas has the physical and competitive foundation to continue progressing at the collegiate level. He is looking for a U.S. college rowing program where he can continue developing under experienced coaches, compete at a high level, and contribute to a motivated team environment.

Lukas’ ambition is to continue moving up the rowing pathway and challenge himself against the best collegiate athletes in the United States. His cousin, who recently rowed for Thames Rowing Club and will attend Yale University, has also been an important inspiration and example of the opportunities that competitive rowing can create.

Academically, Lukas currently holds a 3.38 GPA and will graduate from high school in spring 2027. He plans to take the SAT in September 2026 and is looking to begin his college career in the fall of 2027. His academic interests include Economics, Business, Hospitality, and Spanish, however he is open to exploring different programs as well.
