Tijs started playing basketball in 2021 at the age of 12 with Bumpers Sittard, quickly developing into one of the most promising young centers in his region. His rapid growth and commitment to the game led to his selection for B.E.N.G. in November 2024, a program competing at the Dutch 1st Division level. Taking his development to the next level, Tijs joined the prestigious Belgian club HUBO Limburg United in August 2026. He will be competing at the absolute highest national level, referred to in Belgium as Niveau 1.

Throughout his journey, Tijs has gained valuable experience in both national and international competition. He was crowned champion in both the U16 and U18 categories at the Theux Tournament in Belgium and helped his team secure an impressive third-place finish among 54 teams at the BAL International Tournament in Weert. He has also produced multiple 30+ point performances, showcasing his ability to dominate games offensively.

Strengths

Tijs thrives in the low post, where his strength, size, and physicality allow him to control the paint on both ends of the floor. He is a strong finisher around the basket and uses his frame effectively to create scoring opportunities close to the rim. Defensively, he provides rim protection and rebounding presence, making him difficult to play against in the interior.

Beyond his physical attributes, Tijs brings leadership and energy to every team he joins. He is often the player who motivates teammates and sets the tone through effort and intensity. His combination of size, toughness, and determination gives him a strong foundation for continued development as a high-level center and power forward. 

Area to improve 

Tijs is focused on continuing to expand his game and becoming a more complete modern big. He is currently working on becoming more consistent with his shooting and improving his ability to get quick shots off. In addition, he is focused on developing lighter and quicker footwork to become more mobile on the court. Tijs is also working on improving his ball-handling, especially with the goal of developing into a potential stretch big who can create opportunities and contribute from outside the paint.

Athletic goals

Tijs has ambitious long-term goals and is fully committed to maximizing his potential. His immediate objective is to continue developing into the best player he can be and earn a scholarship opportunity at a college in the United States. Once there, he aims to establish himself as one of the top centers in college basketball. Ultimately, Tijs dreams of reaching the highest level of the sport and pursuing a professional career. His work ethic, determination, and clear vision for the future continue to drive his development every day.
