About Thomas Hordijk

Athletic Background
Thomas began his athletics journey in 2017 and entered his first competitions in 2018 through the regional youth league. While his early results were modest, his progression accelerated significantly when he moved up to the junior category in 2021. There, he became one of the top scorers on the club’s first competition team.

In 2024, he tried triple jump for the first time and immediately found success, claiming a bronze medal at the C-Spelen (the unofficial Dutch championships for U16 athletes) with a jump of 11.90 meters. That same year, his relay team finished fourth at the Dutch National Championships in the Swedish relay.

In 2025, Thomas placed 8th at the National Indoor Championships U18 and earned a spot on C.A.V. Energie’s senior competition team, which competes in the Dutch second division. In his own U18 competition league, he remains one of the team’s highest scorers.

In 2026, Thomas became Dutch Indoor U18 Champion in the triple jump with a personal best of 12.57 meters.

Personal Bests

  • Triple Jump: 12.92 m
  • High Jump: 1.80 m
  • Long Jump: 6.11 m
  • 400m Hurdles: 1:05.47
  • 1000m: 2:54.86

Strengths
Thomas is known for his determination. Once he sets a goal, he is willing to give everything to achieve it. This drive allows him to train consistently, stay focused, and seek improvement every day. He is also deeply involved at his club, in addition to being an athlete, he coaches young athletes in the youth program.

Areas to Improve
While his dedication is a major strength, Thomas acknowledges the need to find better balance. He sometimes sacrifices other important areas of life for his athletic goals. He’s working on identifying which trade-offs are worth making. On a mental level, he also wants to focus more on himself and his process, rather than being distracted by what others may think.

Athletic Goals
In the coming years, Thomas aims to significantly improve his performance, especially in technical events like triple jump and the 400m hurdles. He looks forward to training with purpose, developing as a complete athlete, and hopefully gaining more national and possibly international competition experience in the future.
