Damian's Dream: Baseball in America Our son always had one big dream: to play baseball in America and get as far as possible. When we got in touch with Slamstox, Damian was only 14 years old. It was an intensive process, with tests and all kinds of steps, but it was absolutely worth it. We experienced Slamstox's guidance as enormously nice, they were always ready to support us and gave us the confidence that we were on the right path. Their help helped us enormously to make this dream come true. As of September 2024, Damian is a student at a boarding school in Thompson, Connecticut, where he is now a sophomore in high school. As parents of an 18-year-old son who plays volleyball, we are very positive about our experiences with Slamstox. From the first meeting until yesterday, the arrival in America at the university, we were included in every step of the process, we received help where necessary and our questions were answered immediately and completely or they were returned to us as quickly as possible, if they had to ask the coach in America for example (time difference). Appointments were made (including video calling) and kept to the minute and plenty of time was taken. There was also frequent app contact. Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have practical questions? Here we answer the most frequently asked questions on topics such as:

To play college sports, you must have completed at least high school. However, there are several options:
– You have a completed HAVO or VWO diploma;
– You have a GED diploma. This is an American High School certificate that you can get as a Dutchman if you only have a VMBO diploma, for example;
– You have a completed (two-year) MBO education;
– You are working on a bachelor’s degree;
– You have a completed bachelor’s degree.

Here you will find more information about the various options.

If you attended a Dutch high school, you must have completed HAVO or VWO. You can start the process while you are still in school, but you can’t start at a university in America until you get your degree.

There are also opportunities for athletes who have already started studying in the Netherlands. Are you already studying at a Dutch MBO, HBO or WO university? Then you can often transfer to an American university. Slamstox will help you find a university that meets your academic needs.

A scholarship is an amount of money that a student receives to reduce or even completely eliminate study costs. Scholarships are awarded to students who have achieved good school and/or sports results: thus, it is a financial reward that helps with tuition costs.

In America, unlike in the Netherlands, scholarships are very common. Universities in America have a “pot of money” that they distribute in the form of scholarships to the best students. Bringing in the best students allows universities to compete with each other: on both an academic and athletic level, every university wants to be the best!

There are two different types of scholarships that are most common: athletic (athletic) scholarships and academic (academic) scholarships. Athletic scholarships are issued by athletic coaches, while the amount of academic scholarships are determined by the university.
