Athletic Background
Cas started athletics at the age of seven and quickly developed a passion for the sport. During his younger years, he competed across all track and field disciplines, with a particular focus on the heptathlon. This broad athletic foundation helped him develop coordination, speed, strength, and technical versatility. Throughout this period, he qualified multiple times for the Dutch National Championships in the heptathlon, achieving a best national finish of 10th place.
Although he enjoyed competing in combined events, hurdles was always his favorite discipline. From the U14 category onward, hurdles gradually became his primary focus, and he consistently qualified for both the Dutch Indoor and Outdoor National Championships every year.
After moving into the U17 category, Cas made the decision to fully focus on hurdles and sprinting. This specialization resulted in significant improvements in both his performances and overall development. Due to his progress, he was invited to join a regional hurdles training group, where he trains alongside some of the best young hurdlers in the Netherlands. For the past two seasons, he has participated in these regional sessions every weekend while also training five times per week with AV De Spartaan.
Over the last few years, Cas has established himself as a consistent finalist at Dutch National Championships. His highest national finish so far is 5th place, while he most recently finished 7th at the Dutch Indoor Championships after a disappointing final. Rather than discouraging him, this result provided extra motivation to continue improving and competing for podium finishes.
The outdoor season started strongly with a 14.87 performance in the 110m hurdles despite difficult weather conditions. This season opener reinforced his belief that he can compete for medals at the Dutch National Championships in both the short and long hurdle events.

Strengths
Cas’ greatest strength is his discipline and dedication to athletics. He consistently prioritizes his training, recovery, and long-term development, understanding that success requires commitment both on and off the track. This focused mindset has allowed him to steadily improve year after year.
In addition to his work ethic, hurdling technique is one of his strongest qualities. Having spent years refining his technical execution, he moves efficiently and smoothly over the hurdles, allowing him to maximize his performance even against athletes with greater raw speed. His background in multiple disciplines has also contributed to his overall athleticism and body control.
Areas to Improve
While Cas’ hurdling technique is already a strong asset, he recognizes that his greatest opportunity for improvement lies in his sprint speed. Compared to his hurdle performances, his flat sprint times do not yet fully reflect his potential. Increasing his speed between the hurdles and becoming more explosive overall are key focus areas in his training. By improving these aspects of his performance, he aims to take the next step toward competing at an international level.
Athletic Goals
Cas is determined to continue progressing as a hurdler and to earn opportunities to compete at international competitions. Over the next four years, his primary performance goal is to break the 14-second barrier in the 110m hurdles. He also aims to become a medal contender at the Dutch National Championships and continue developing within elite training environments that will prepare him for success at the collegiate and international levels.
