While most students are enjoying their summer break, many Slamstox student-athletes are competing at the highest level. All over the world, they are representing the Netherlands at European Championships, World Championships, and international tournaments, while others are preparing for the start of their college season in the United States.
There are many more wonderful moments to come in the weeks ahead, so this page will continue to be updated with new achievements and results throughout the summer.
Maaike Heilig Wins European Championship Bronze with the Dutch U22 Team
One of the first highlights of this summer came from Maaike Heilig. She played in the European Championship on home soil with the Dutch Under-22 volleyball team. After a strong tournament, the Dutch team ultimately won the bronze medal—a remarkable achievement at the European level.
Maaike is now back in the United States, where she is preparing for the new NCAA season with the University of Pittsburgh.
Imme de Leeuw Wins the 8 Nations Tournament
Imme de Leeuw also had a successful summer. The field hockey player won the 8 Nations Tournament in Granada, Spain, with the Dutch junior national team. It was a great international achievement and the perfect preparation for her next step.
Imme will soon be leaving for the United States, where she will combine her studies and hockey career at UNC Chapel Hill.
Nassim van Hal to Compete in the European Championships
Nassim van Hal also enjoyed success on the international stage. The javelin thrower competed this summer at the European Under-18 Championships, where he represented the Netherlands at the highest level of European youth athletics. It was a valuable international experience and a significant step in his athletic development.
Strong Results at the Dutch National Track and Field Championships
Slamstox athletes also showed their best side during the Dutch Track and Field Championships.
Slamstox ambassador Jorinde van Klinken won the Dutch discus throw title. Maud van Kempen finished in third place behind her, meaning both athletes had a strong performance at the Dutch Championships.
In addition, Justin Sluijter was crowned Dutch long jump champion—yet another outstanding national title for a Slamstox athlete.
