In this article, we tell you more about student-athlete Iskander Stapel. At the bottom, you will also find the video in which Iskander tells you more about himself.
Sport: Men’s Tennis
Entry semester: Fall 2027
This is Iskander, an ambitious tennis player from Nijmegen. He started playing tennis at the age of four, temporarily stopped around the age of ten and took up the sport again six years later. He also has a broad sporting background with ten years of soccer and seven years of track & field. He currently spends four to five days a week on the tennis court.
Iskander describes himself as sociable, curious and involved. He finds it important that everyone feels part of a group, and when he commits to something, he gives it his full effort.
As a tennis player, Iskander is very coachable and tries to apply feedback directly to his game. His strengths are his powerful serve, speed and ability to read the game well.
In the United States, Iskander wants to develop into the best tennis player he can be. College tennis appeals to him because it allows him to combine tennis at a high level with his studies while becoming part of a close-knit team in which players help each other improve.
“I want to go to America to become the best tennis player I can be.” – Iskander
