    Campus

It is a private university with approximately 2,500 students. As the name suggests, the university is located in the city of Charleston. This is the capital of the state of West Virginia and has just under 50,000 residents. The city is large enough to offer various enjoyable activities and small enough to navigate easily. Whether you are looking for a great place to eat, want to go shopping, or do something fun with your friends, you can find it all. Want to know more about the city of Charleston? Check it out here.

There is also a lot to experience on the campus itself. Here, you have various facilities such as your living space, restaurants, study areas, and sports facilities. During your first year, you live on this campus, and since everything you need is available on-site, there’s no need to leave the campus necessarily. This allows you to focus even more on your sport and studies. Check out the campus map here or watch this video about campus life here.

    Sport

The University of Charleston offers 12 different sports, including Baseball, Basketball, Golf, Soccer, Tennis, Track & Field, and Volleyball. The school competes in the Mountain East Conference in the NCAA Division 2. Here, they face off against universities such as West Virginia State, Fairmont State, and Notre Dame College.

As mentioned, there are also sports facilities on the campus. One of these facilities is the H. Bernard Wehrle Senior Athletic Arena with a capacity of 1,589 seats. This large indoor hall, opened in 2016, is located in the center of the campus and hosts many indoor sports competitions, graduation ceremonies, concerts, and fairs. It is also the home venue for the basketball and volleyball teams. Maya trains with her Track & Field team at the UC Stadium, which has a capacity of 18,500 people. All in all, there are plenty of excellent sports facilities available, allowing you to thrive as a student-athlete.

Like many universities, the students at the University of Charleston have a nickname, namely the Golden Eagles. This is reflected in the university’s colors, logo, and, of course, the mascot. The Golden Eagle from the University of Charleston is present during games and adds spirit to the events.

    Study

The university is not only suitable for sports but also for academics. The most popular academic programs are:

    • Business
    • Nursing
    • Biology

Of course, there are many more programs of study. Are you curious to know what they are? Take a look at this overview.

Being a relatively small university, the faculty members are highly engaged and eager to assist. Moreover, they are passionate about their subjects, easily accessible, and articulate. This creates a positive and supportive learning environment, which is highly appreciated!
