Cas van Slooten – Men’s Track & Field

In this article, we’ll tell you more about student-athlete Cas van Slooten. At the bottom, you’ll also find a video in which Cas talks more about himself.

Sport: Men’s Track & Field / Cross Country
Enrollment semester: Fall 2027

This is Cas van Slooten, an ambitious and disciplined hurdler from the Netherlands. Cas started track and field at the age of seven and was introduced to virtually every aspect of the sport during his youth. The heptathlon, in particular, played an important role in his development for a long time and gave him a broad athletic foundation.

Although Cas has experience in various disciplines, the hurdles have always been his favorite event. Starting in the U14 age group, he began to focus more and more on this event and managed to qualify every year for both the Dutch indoor and outdoor championships.

Later, Cas decided to specialize exclusively in hurdling and sprinting. This decision led to significant improvement. He now trains five times a week at AV De Spartaan and is also a member of a regional hurdling group, where he trains alongside other talented Dutch athletes.

One of Cas’s greatest strengths is his discipline. He takes his training and recovery seriously and is constantly working to improve himself. In addition, his hurdling technique is a major asset. Thanks to his many years of experience, he moves efficiently over the hurdles and is able to make good use of his technical skills during competitions.

Cas also knows exactly where he can still improve. Above all, he wants to become faster and more explosive between the hurdles. By further developing his pure sprint speed, he hopes to take his performance to the next level.

His ambition is to compete internationally in the future and become one of the top hurdlers in the Netherlands. Cas sees college in the United States as the ideal environment to train at a high level every day, compete in races, and work toward his academic future at the same time.

“I want to keep improving as a hurdler, compete at the international level, and see how far I can push myself.” – Cas van Slooten
