Joy van Loon – Men’s Waterpolo

In this article, we tell you more about student-athlete Joy van Loon. In addition, at the bottom of this article you will find the video in which Joy tells more about herself.

Sports: Men’s Waterpolo
Entry semester: Fall 2025

This is Joy van Loon, a 20-year-old water polo player from the Netherlands. Since he was little, his parents let him try different sports. At the age of seven he was introduced to waterpolo, and from his first practice he was immediately sold. The combination of teamwork, intensity and challenging play situations appealed to him immensely.

Joy is someone who can quickly adapt to new environments and learns easily, something that has helped him both in sports and school. He is interested in others and their stories, and his friends describe him as someone who is somewhat shy at first, but once at ease becomes very social.

As an athlete, Joy is completely dedicated to his team. He doesn’t care who scores, as long as the team as a whole performs. He pushes himself to his physical limits and motivates his teammates to do the same. In the water, he is quick and a dominant defender, making him an essential force on his team. He adds hard work, dedication and enthusiasm to any team and is determined to keep growing, both as a person and an athlete.

In America, Joy wants to play water polo at a high level and contribute to his team’s success. He sees it as an opportunity to grow as an athlete and student while pursuing his master’s degree in Business Administration. He also looks forward to learning more about American culture and gaining new experiences.

“I am excited for the opportunity to grow, compete and make a lessing impact in and out of the pool.”
