In this article, we introduce you to student-athlete Lukas Mund. Below you will also find a video in which Lukas introduces himself.
Sports: Rugby
Entry semester: Fall 2025
Meet Lukas Mund, a motivated and versatile rugby player with an international background. Lukas grew up in the Netherlands, but has both German and Portuguese roots. He is fluent in Dutch, German and English and is working hard on his Portuguese. Lukas is 22 years old and has had a passion for sports since a young age, encouraged by his parents who always encouraged him to stay active.
At the age of seven, Lukas started playing soccer and continued to do so until he was sixteen. He also kickboxed for two years, simply because he enjoys discovering new sports. His switch to rugby came after a friend convinced him, and he hasn’t stopped since. He has now been playing rugby for six years and shows that he still has a lot of potential to grow further.
Lukas is a team player at heart. He plays without ego and wants to see his teammates succeed as much as himself. On the field, he is dedicated and always goes to the limit. What sets him apart is his analytical mindset: he knows how to handle complex situations well and makes thoughtful decisions. He is also a direct and honest person, qualities that are of great value both inside and outside the team.
In America, Lukas wants to further develop his athletic potential while pursuing his academic ambitions. He sees a future for himself in the sports world, for example in scouting, coaching or sports marketing. He also looks forward to being part of a tight-knit team, challenging himself physically and mentally, and getting to know people from all over the world.
What he adds to a university? A socially strong, multilingual team player with an iron-clad work ethic and the motivation to get better every day. Lukas is someone who is fully committed, to his team, his studies and his future.
“I give 100 percent for the team and have a small ego.”
