Play hockey and study in America? Kim van der Meulen is the college field hockey specialist at Slamstox.

Kim was one of Slamstox’s first clients . She went to California to follow her dream. A great period with a lot of hockey, studying and traveling that she looks back on with great pleasure. That made Kim decide to help other hockey players also make the switch to America.

From her own experiences she knows everything about playing hockey and studying in America with a scholarship!

Curious about Kim’s story and whether you can also qualify for a hockey grant? Check out the video below and Kim’s background:

Kim’s story

Two years ago I decided to start the American adventure. After playing in the national league for Oranje Zwart MA1 (now Oranje Rood), I switched to University of California, Davis. Where I could optimally combine sport and study. Thanks to Slamstox, I got a full athletic scholarship here.

At UC Davis I had the time of my life for two years. With 22 teammates, 3 coaches, a physical therapist and academic supervisors, we formed a close family. Besides training 20 hours a week, and studying at a university with more than 35,000 students, we flew to different states to play matches and spend the night in the most beautiful hotels. Every day I look back on this great adventure.

Now that I am back in the Netherlands, I want to help other hockey players to have a similar experience. In America I got to know different schools, teams and coaches; which means I have a large network and can help make the right choice
