Xander Bomert

Xander Bomert currently plays in the Dutch Eredivisie (highest senior league level), for Talent Team Papendal as an opposite. Besides that he is also part of the Dutch National Team Under 19. He is very eager to always give everything on and off the court. 

Xander started playing volleyball at the age of 12. He quickly started to train five times a week and within three years he was already invited to play for the National team (youth) and to join the Talent Team Papendal, to fulltime train and play with the best young players from the Netherlands. 

When Xander starts his approach, the last 2 steps contain his acceleration. He also doesn't care where the ball comes from, his timing to hit the ball at the highest point (352 cm reachheight 1 arm) is a natural gift. It is nice to see in this video, his different approach velocities. Sometimes the ball given by the setter behind the 3-meter line is faster than at the net. As said, it doesn't matter to Xander, his sense of timing combined with his quick arm and rotation in the hip he always sees an opportunity to pass the block.  Also in the block he translates his timing (335 cm reach height 2 arms) with that of the attacker, making it difficult for many an attacker to get through.  Defensively, Xander is alert and tries to execute the system as well as possible, allowing him to make an important contribution to the team. He also does that through his power jump serve. In fact the team's first attack he is capable of putting pressure on many an opponent's pass line.

As we said, Xander is always eager to give everything. He has the ability to pick up new things and information quickly. His drive to become the best player, can also really help him in the US. 

During his time in college he wants to improve his overall volleyball skills, he wants to turn pro afterwards. We believe within the right environment and a good coach, Xander has the qualities to develop as a big college volleyball player.

Xander graduated from high school, in the HAVO level (second highest level of high school in the Netherlands), in June 2023. He is currently in a gap year and interested in majoring in business administration. He will have 4 years of eligibility remaining.
