Last month, the World Swimming Championships took place in Fukuoka, Japan. Our very own Nyls Korstanje also participated in the event, diving into the water multiple times to represent Team NL.

Nyls is a member of the NC State swim team in America, where he’s an NCAA champion and even holds a relay record. It’s no surprise that he’s also a part of Team NL. He spends most of the year in America for training and studying, but he rejoined the Netherlands in preparation for the World Championships.

”Dat bevalt heel goed. In Amerika kan ik trainen met jongens die mij uitdagen, want in Nederland heb ik op de vlinderslag niet veel concurrentie. In Nederland doe ik dan de wedstrijdvoorbereiding.”

– Nyls Korstanje

During the Tokyo Olympic Games, he was already a part of the Dutch team, and now he’s back in Japan temporarily for the World Championships. In the 100m butterfly event, the Slamstox athlete achieved immediate success, swimming well below the Olympic qualifying time in the preliminary rounds. But that’s not all, he also further improved his own Dutch record in the distance.

So, next year we’ll be seeing Nyls not only in America but also during the Paris Olympic Games, where he will be preparing for his second Games in his career. Congratulations on this achievement, Nyls – we are proud!
