Universities, players, coaches: they are all in the spotlight from time to time. Today it’s the turn for some of our golfers, who managed to perform well in tournaments last week! Below we tell you more about it.

The Dutch Junior Open

The Dutch Junior Open, for the golfers among us, this tournament needs no introduction. But for the non-golfers: it is the largest youth tournament in the Netherlands, in which many international players also participate! Some Slamstox golfers were on the player list: Hester Sicking, Minouche Rooijmans, Maud Bartels, Quirine ter Meulen, Eva Nijenhuis, Hidde Fontein, Bob van Beeck, Thom van der Sluijs, Bryan de Jonge, Felix van Dijk, Nevill Ruiter and Lars van der Vight, they all came into action!

Lars van der Vight – Dutch Junior Open

Lars, Nevill and Felix finished the tournament very high in the leaderboard. It was exciting because after two of the three rounds, all three Slamstox golfers were tied for first place! That was with a score of 4 under par. Felix made a score of 70 (-2), Nevill made a score of 71(-1) in the last round and Lars made a score of 74 (+2). Lars finished in 5th place, Nevill in 2nd place and Felix took the win. With that, he obtained a wild card for the Dutch Open!

Lars and Nevill leave for America in August to begin their college golf adventure. Lars will join the team from UTRGV and Nevill from College of Charleston. Felix also returns to Illinois State where he has been a student-athlete for a while now. So they might meet each other next semester on the other side of the ocean… Let’s go!

German International Amateur Championship

Last week, Jerry Ji competed at the German International Amateur Championship. Also known as the ‘German Am’, this tournament is one of the biggest European amateur tournaments of the season. Jerry finished with a score of -16, which is great! His score was good for a tie for first place, in the end Jerry finished second after a play-off that lasted 4 holes.

Jerry will return to the USA in August, where he will start his junior year at UIUC. His university was in one of our university spotlights earlier.
