It’s time for a new edition of University Spotlight, and this month we’re focusing on Lamar University. Lamar University is one of the fastest-growing universities in the state of Texas. Last year, the university celebrated its 100th anniversary. Keep reading to discover all that this university in Beaumont, Texas has to offer.

The Campus

If you love nature and a green environment, Lamar University is the place to be. The campus boasts state-of-the-art facilities and beautiful green spaces. With over 100 hectares (that’s more than 100 football fields!), the campus provides an amazing setting for both studying and sports.

On campus, there are countless activities and facilities for you to enjoy. Think of various dining options, cozy communal spaces, and much more. The bustling heart of the campus is the Setzler Student Center. Here, all university students can gather to study and participate in extracurricular activities.

Beaumont: the city

In the southeast of Texas lies the city of Beaumont. The city boasts a mix of history, culture, and natural beauty. The origins of the Texan oil industry can be traced back to the Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum, located on the campus. This is a reconstructed oil drilling site. Taking a lovely stroll through Beaumont’s historic district to discover its beautiful architecture and charming shops is also highly recommended.

For true nature enthusiasts, Beaumont offers the opportunity to challenge yourself by visiting the Big Thicket National Preserve. Here, you’ll find vast expanses of swamps, forests, and rivers. You can even go kayaking here. Additionally, the South Texas State Fair takes place in this town annually, bringing together entertainment, music, food, and agriculture in one vibrant event!

Sports

Lamar University competes with all its sports teams in NCAA Division I, within the Southland Conference. Numerous sports are offered, including football, basketball, tennis, athletics, and many more. One of our own Slamstox athletes is active in the track & field team: Thomas Knoop. You may have seen him earlier in our ones to watch track & field; he has been active as a javelin thrower since this school year.

If you’re a fan of college sports and you go to Lamar, you’ll find yourself spending a lot of time at the Montagne Center. This is the home of many exciting sports events where the Cardinals, as Lamar’s sports teams are known, compete. More than 10,000 students and other sports enthusiasts can attend various games and matches here.

Study

In addition to sports, academics also play a crucial role in the life of a student-athlete. At Lamar University, you can choose from over 100 different types of programs. The academic offerings range from arts and sciences to engineering and business administration, among many others.

The university places great importance on diversity, maintaining a vibrant community of students from all corners of the world.
