What is the difference between a college and a university?

Studies in the United States - 10 September 2020

In the United States, colleges and universities are both used. Academically, there is no difference between a college or a university. The top 10 schools in the US consist of colleges and universities.

The difference mainly lies in the organization of the institution. In general, colleges are a bit smaller than universities and they do not always offer master’s programs. A university offers bachelor’s and master’s programs and therefore usually has a larger student body.
