America is incredibly large and more than 2,000 universities can be found there. This wide range of universities ensures that there is a suitable university for everyone that suits your academic and athletic needs. If you have already started your university studies in the Netherlands, it is possible to play sports and study in America! You can then transfer to America as a transfer student. You take your credits with you and continue your studies in America. It is also possible to directly start a master’s program in America after finishing your bachelor. You can then study in America for another year to finish your master’s degree here. Did you know that your American master’s degree is also valid in the Netherlands?

Are you currently studying at a university in the Netherlands and not sure if you meet the requirements? Then feel free to contact us without obligation!

You certainly can! Slamstox often helps Dutch students who, while studying in the Netherlands, decide they want to study in America. It is then customary to convert your credits from the Netherlands to American credits, so that you can continue your studies in America. This allows you, for example, to enter the second year and easily continue your studies at an American university.

It varies by situation, study and university whether you can go straight through or have to catch up on some subjects. Slamstox is happy to help you figure out your personal options. Want to know more about your situation? Feel free to contact us, we are happy to help you.

You can certainly pursue a master’s degree in America as well. We regularly help students who complete their bachelor’s degree in the Netherlands and then pursue a master’s degree in America with a sports scholarship. When you have obtained a bachelor’s degree in the Netherlands, you can choose a master’s program in America that matches your desired field of study.

It is important to still have playing eligibility if you want to start a master’s program in America. This is something Slamstox can find out for you before you begin the process.

Sometimes it is also possible to combine a master’s degree with a coaching role, for example by being an assistant coach on a team which covers much of your college expenses. Then you are no longer a student-athlete and do not receive an athletic scholarship, but a scholarship to help the team as a (grad) assistant.

So there are many opportunities and possibilities! Want to know what is possible for you? Then contact us.

In addition to the many “college rankings” (Princeton University Review, U.S. News College Rankings and Forbes University Rankings), there are other factors to consider.

Because there is no distinction between WO and HBO in America, admission requirements are a good measure of a university’s academic level (grade point average, GPA, admissions test scores, extracurricular activities). Slamstox looks for a university where you can maximize your studies and achieve your goals at your level.

The two terms are almost identical. In terms of academic level, the two do not differ: the top 10 best universities consist of colleges and universities.

The difference lies in the organization of the institution. Generally, colleges are smaller than universities and do not always offer master’s degrees. A university always offers undergraduate and graduate programs and therefore often has a larger number of students.

View all universities and colleges through our universities page.

As in the Netherlands, this varies from one study to another. Some universities are known for good economic studies and others for right, for example, interesting physics studies. Also, there is often a lot of difference between the level of bachelor and master programs.

Slamstox works with many data, rankings and databases to portray the quality of particular colleges. There are also many reliable rankings released annually, such as the Princeton University Review, niche best colleges, the U.S. News College Ranking and the Forbes University Rankings. However, these are also sometimes subjective and do not always reflect what is relevant to you as a student.

Slamstox specifically helps you find a college that fits your academic requirements and level of experience. Want to know how we do that? Then get in touch with us! We are happy to look at the different options with you.

Junior and community colleges are two-year educational institutions in America where you can earn an Associate Degree. After those two years, there is the option to transfer to a regular university where you can earn a bachelor’s degree, in which case you enter in the third year and thus still earn a bachelor’s degree in four years.

In terms of sports, most junior and community colleges are in the NJCAA. These colleges are less expensive and have a greater focus on hands-on learning.

In America, as in the Netherlands, a bachelor’s degree lasts four years. The first year is often an orientation year in which students can discover themselves and their interests. After this year, it is easier to make a good study choice.

So you do not have to, as in the Netherlands, immediately register at a university for a particular study. However, it is useful to have an idea of the direction you want to take. This allows Slamstox to make a selection of universities that offer the best studies in that field. Here you can find much more information about the different studies offered at American universities.

The opportunities in America are very broad. You can study almost anything you can study in the Netherlands. The difference is that sometimes the studies have a different name than you are used to in the Netherlands. It is good to know that some studies are much better at different schools. For example, there are schools that specialize in medicine, engineering and so on. We will help you find the best university that matches your level.

A big difference with studies in the Netherlands is often that the first year of a bachelor’s program in America is a lot more general. It is therefore possible to choose a final study after your first year. Are you curious which studies you can follow in America? Then take a look at our universities page!

GPA in American stands for “Grade Point Average,” or your grade point average. So your GPA is a college grade where the average exam grades are weighted toward credits. A GPA is primarily used in the English-speaking world such as America and England. A GPA of 1.0 is the lowest and a GPA of 4.0 is the highest.

Slamstox helps you convert your school grades into a formula to determine your “GPA. With your GPA, we can apply to schools, and the higher your GPA, the better your chances of getting a full scholarship. Learn more about the importance of your GPA here.

Your grade point average is important for college admission and for admission within the athletic league. It determines whether you meet college admission requirements but also your GPA must meet a minimum requirement, which varies by division.

Universities ask you to send them your Dutch high school reports, often in English. Slamstox makes sure this is done officially so the universities receive exactly what is needed. This also takes into account the differences between HAVO and VWO. VWO grades can be converted to HAVO grades which ensures that you get a higher GPA.

Do you want to know what your GPA is and with it what your chances are of playing sports and studying in America? Then contact us.

In America, there is no distinction between HBO and WO, and so there can be large academic level differences from one university to another. Some universities in the Netherlands are listed as WO, and others are listed as HBO. In most cases, athletes with an American bachelor’s degree can go directly on to a Dutch or American master’s degree.

Sometimes it happens that our student-athletes have to do a pre-master of six months or a year, before they can start a university master’s in the Netherlands (just like a Dutch HBO student).

It is very important for us to know in advance what your academic ambitions are, so that we can find a university that best suits your (academic) ambitions.

In terms of job opportunities, student-athletes with U.S. bachelor’s degrees often have an edge! To learn more about your job opportunities, or how we can help you find a job, check this page.
