Frederique Grimbergen
Frederique is a motivated and skilled midfielder playing for Schaerweijde U18-1 at the highest level of Dutch youth hockey, the National League (Landelijk). Frederique is looking forward to joining an ambitious field hockey program starting in the Fall of 2024.
About Frederique Grimbergen
Level
Frederique has played at the highest level of Dutch youth hockey (Landelijk) for the past few years. In 2022, her team finished third in her U16 poule, just missing out on the national finals. Frederique started her playing career at a smaller club, but to fulfill her ambitions she decided to transfer to a bigger club (Schaerweijde), where she was immediately selected to the U16-1 team.
Playing style
Frederique is a skilled and speedy midfielder. She excels at using skill to eliminate her opponent, and using speed to move away from their reach, especially on the left side of the field. Frederique has the ability to keep her head up while moving at full speed, and will always search for a connection with one of her teammates. She is a feisty but patient defender, putting her opponents under enough pressure to force turnovers. Frederique is a great student of the game, always looking for ways to improve as an individual, but also to help her team in executing the game plan. Frederique has a variety of strong additional skills: such as an aerial and drag flick.
High performance
Frederique was selected to participate in the selection training for the Dutch U16 team in 2021 when she was 14 years old. She has also been selected to participate in several high performance Hockey Academies, allowing her to partake in additional weekly practices with most talented and motivated players of her region.
Additional information
Frederique has participated in a U14 3v3 tournament in 2019 as a U12 player in addition to her regular club competition. Her team became regional champions and they were invited to the national tournament where they finished 6th. Frederique also participated in the 5v5 Club Championships in 2020 as a U14 player. Her team became the club champion after beating U14, U16 and U18 teams.
Academics
Frederique is a motivated and hardworking student, and expected to graduate Dutch high school (HAVO) in June 2024. She has an SAT score of 1090 and is expected to take the Duolingo test in the Fall of 2023.
