Malou Korner

Level

Malou plays for HC Rotterdam U18-1 with whom she competes with in the strongest youth league in the Netherlands (Landelijk).

She has worked her way up with dedication and perseverance as she wasn’t always selected for the first team. Her team was named the Dutch national champion of the U18’s last year, competing against the best youth teams of the Netherlands. Malou played a significant amount in the championship game, earning a starting position. Malou has always played for HC Rotterdam, one of the best Field Hockey clubs in the Netherlands.

Playing Style

Malou is known for her 1v1 defensive skills. She has patience and can anticipate the movements of her opponent. On top of that, she knows how to position herself. She always keeps in mind to be in line to the goal and defend the middle of the field and the circle. She is also very calm on the ball and keeps her composure with outletting. She always knows where to pass the ball before she even receives it herself, always looking ahead for the next pass. Malou is also able to give aerials which she has been practicing on a lot. She is still eager to improve her skills as she is always critical of herself and wants to become better at attacking from the back.

Academics

Malou is an intelligent student, expected to graduate at the highest educational level in the Netherlands (VWO) in June, 2024. She is planning on taking her SAT and Duolingo this upcoming year. She is undecided on her major.

Malou is looking forward to competing in the U.S. and being part of a team that is close on and off the field. She cannot wait to develop as a player and help her team compete for a national championship in the U.S. starting in the Fall of 2024.
