Mijntje Hagen

Level

Mijntje currently plays in the U18-1 team of Schaerweijde at the highest level of Dutch youth hockey (National league/Landelijk). The 16 best U18 teams of the country compete in this league. Mijntje has always played at this, or a comparable level since she started playing field hockey. During the 2022-2023 season, Mijntje made her debut for the Women 1 team of Schaerweijde in their final game for promotion to the second highest Women league of Dutch senior competition (Promotieklasse).

Playing style

Mijntje is a powerful forward with a knack for goalscoring, scoring 15+ goals per season. Her well developed basic skills (passing/receiving/shooting) and poise allow her to be an efficient attacker. Mijntje’s dribbling skills are advanced and make her a strong ball carrier lower on the field. She has the ability to create her own opportunities but is also great at positioning herself in the circle to finish passes from her teammates. Mijntje has been first corner striker on APCs and is a fast and fearless fly on DPCs.

High performance

Mijntje has been a regular member of the pipeline for the Dutch National youth teams. She was part of her U14 regional selection team (practicing weekly with the best U14 players of her region), and has been invited to the selections for the Dutch U16 team.

Additional information

Mijntje has been selected team captain for the 2023-2024 season, challenging her in developing her leadership and communication skills.

Accomplishments/accolades

Mijntje has participated in several National Championship tournaments with her club teams. She has been named tournament MVP once.

Academics

Mijntje is a strong and motivated student and is expected to graduate the highest level of Dutch high school (VWO) in June 2024. Mijntje is expected to take the SAT and Duolingo in Spring or Fall of 2023.
