Vera Hekkenberg

Level

Vera plays for Gooische Hockey Club U18-1 with whom she is competing in the first rounds of the National League (Landelijk), the highest league for the Dutch youth league.

She has always been in the first team selection throughout her entire youth career. She is used to playing at the highest level playing against the best youth players in the country. She was also invited to the selection training for the Dutch U18 team. On top of that, Vera has been practicing with the Ladies First team. This gives her the chance to practice against harder balls with more power.

Playing Style

Vera is known to be a very strong goalkeeper that is quick on her feet. She is flexible which makes it easy for her to get into difficult positions to stop the ball. She has good reflexes and knows how to read the play. She has game insight and knows the importance of watching video to have a better understanding of the things she can still work on. Vera has also been focusing on being vocal on the field. She knows she has the best view as a goalkeeper and can help her defenders and even her mids and forwards with their positioning.

Academics

Besides being an excellent goalkeeper, Vera is also a great student. She is expected to graduate at the highest educational level in the Netherlands (VWO) in June, 2024. She is planning on taking her SAT and Duolingo this upcoming year. She is undecided on her major.

Vera is looking forward to learn from her coaches and teammates and cannot wait to make a big positive impact on her team starting in the Fall of 2024.
