A new month means another University Spotlight. In this University Spotlight, we focus on the university of two of our hockey girls: Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). Roos van Herel left in the summer of 2022, and Fatou Yade Diop joined the team a few months ago.

Campus

Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a public school with approximately 10,000 students. As the name suggests, it is located in the city of Indiana in the state of Pennsylvania. The campus has many facilities and offers numerous opportunities for student-athletes. You will spend a lot of time on campus. You can think of it, and it’s there. From accommodations to shops and from places to relax to gyms. Everything to make it as easy as possible for you.

Sport

The school competes in Division 2 and is part of the NCAA Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, where they compete against schools such as Mercyhurst, West Chester, and Mansfield. They offer the following sports: American football, athletics, baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, hockey, lacrosse, softball, tennis, soccer, volleyball, and swimming. So, plenty of choices!

Roos and Fatou are both on the Field Hockey team at IUP. They play their games at the George P. Miller Stadium, one of the many facilities on campus. You can view the campus map here.

The students are also known as the Hawks. This is reflected in the university’s mascot, Norm, a red hawk whose name is a nod to IUP’s roots. The university used to be called Indiana Normal School. Norm can be seen at university games and events.

Study

In addition to sports, there are many opportunities for academic majors at IUP. With more than 160 majors, there’s something for everyone. The most popular majors are listed below.
