Last Saturday Slamstox attended the Dutch Youth Indoor Track & Field Championship at Omnisport in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. Many talented athletes in the age groups U18 & U20 competed for a golden medal and fought hard for new personal records. In addition to the Slamstox-Athletes who were active at the meet, we also scouted new talented athletes for College Track & Field in the US.

We are very proud to say that our Slamstox-Athletes have broken 2 personal records and they have won five medals! Our athletes came home with 2 bronze, 2 silver and a gold medal.

Slamstox-Athletes

In the female U20 long jump category,  Ilse Steigenga from AV Lionitas jumped to a gold medal. At her fifth jump, she reached a distance of 5.95 meters. With this distance she already secured herself with the victory. However, Ilse came back and her final jump broke her personal record:  6.02 meters. Her new PB made her even more interesting for American Track & Field teams. Let’s go Ilse!

In the female U20 1500m category, Emmy van den Berg from Prins Hendrik won a silver medal. She improved her PB by nearly 3 seconds and clocked a time of 4:35,11 minutes. Mid-distance runners and cross-country athletes are very popular within college track & field teams.

At the triple jump for girls in the category U20, Louiza Kruiswijk form AV Atvernia won a silver medal as well. With a distance of 11,78 meters, she jumped just behind the eventual winner. She also set a new personal record by improving herself with 14 centimeters.

In the men’s category there were some great results as well. Our high jumper Jelle Golbach, from AV Haaksbergen, won a bronze medal in the U20 category. He reached this place by jumping 1.97m. A great performance for Jelle who is working very hard to start combining his study and sports in the US in the fall of 2020.

Peter de Kruyff from Hellas Utrecht went home with a bronze medal. At the U20 triple jump category, he jumped 13.37 meters. This led to a solid third place while also setting a new personal record by 67 (!) centimeters.

Many other Slamstox athletes represented their clubs as well. We enjoyed watching them compete and we have seen a great display of skills and talent that American colleges are looking for.

The process

All of these Slamstox-Athletes are in the process of becoming a Student-Athlete in the US. They chose for this process because they want to develop themselves in their sports as well as in their academic careers. College Track & Field will have a great impact on their personal development as well. Slamstox is proud to be working with these high level athletes.

In addition to all of our Slamstox-Athletes, we saw many other athletes who won medals and set new personal records. On behalf of the team of Slamstox, we want to congratulate everyone with their result and we’re looking forward to following all of your progress and seeing you develop in the near future.
