Ties Cornelissen is a 6’5″ tall passer/runner with an impressive track record in Dutch volleyball. He played as a base player for Vocasa in the Eredivisie, the highest club level in the Netherlands. Ties is known for his powerful attacks, strong serve and team-oriented play. His combination of physical strength, technical skills and athletic mentality make him a valuable player for any team.
Ties started playing volleyball at a young age and made his debut in the first division with Skunk at the age of 15. He then progressed through the second team of Vocasa to the first team, where he won his spot as a starting player. He developed rapidly, thanks in part to his enormous drive to continuously improve himself.
The move to America
After finishing high school in 2020, Ties decided to take a gap year because of Covid-19. During that time, he continued to train hard and orient himself to the next step. His goal: to play at the highest level in the US while also studying.
Together with Slamstox, he went in search of a university that was a good fit for him. The search brought him to Concordia University – Irvine, where he is part of the varsity team and grabs valuable playing minutes.
Driven and focused
What made the process with Ties special was his determination. He was always focused on finding the right balance between sports and studies, and was willing to put everything aside for his development as a volleyball player. Ready for the next step
After a short adjustment period, Ties feels completely at home in the American system. Thanks to a combination of sports and scholarships, he has the opportunity to develop to his full potential – both on the field and in the classroom. He is determined to further improve his defensive game and make his mark in the American college league.
