A late start with lightning-fast development
Joska Nelis began her golf journey relatively late, at age 13, at Haarlemmermeersche Golfclub. But what began as curiosity quickly grew into a serious dedication to the sport. Her strong motivation and inquisitive attitude ensured that within a few years she was competing at the national level. At 16, she made a conscious decision to further accelerate her development: she joined golfTON and traded her old club for the Noordwijk Golf Club. A place where she began to further exploit her potential.
Mentally ironclad and driven
What sets Joska apart is her mental strength. She is enormously disciplined, works purposefully and knows how to focus completely – even under pressure. Perhaps her greatest weapon is her approach off the field: she creates weekly structured training schedules, evaluates her progress and constantly sets herself new goals. All with a clear attitude: “The sky is the limit.”
Full focus during a gap year
After high school, Joska consciously decided to take a gap year. Not to rest, but rather to fully focus on her sport. She used this time to improve her game in all areas, while orienting herself to the next step: college golf in the United States.

The move to America
In the search for a suitable university, several options came her way. The time pressure and making the right choice were challenging, but with help from Slamstox, Joska managed to find her way. She eventually chose Indian Hills Community College, where she made an immediate impression: individually and with her team she took first place at her first tournament in America.
“It was quite an exciting choice. Totally new program, new team without references. Joska dared and the first steps are turning out well.”
Valuable guidance from Slamstox
Even after she left for the U.S., her parents kept in touch with Slamstox, which they said gave them a lot of peace of mind. According to them, the personal contact, accessibility and practical guidance were of great value.
Joska’s move to Indian Hills is the beginning of a new chapter in which she is fulfilling her athletic and academic dreams. With an athletic scholarship under her belt, plenty of playing time and a flying start in the U.S., this is the result of years of hard work, guts and belief in her own abilities.
