Suus Broers started her field hockey career at a small local club, but it soon became clear that she had more to offer. Via Phoenix she made the switch to Schaerweijde MA1, where she played in the national competition at the highest youth level in the Netherlands. Her talent did not go unnoticed: Suus was selected for the national U15 and U16 teams and gained international experience in tournaments with the best players of her age.
Qualities under the bar
As a goalkeeper, Suus excels with her quick reflexes, strong basic technique and her excellent performance during penalty balls and shoot-outs. She is a quiet force in the back of the field, always focused and with a clear drive to keep improving herself. Her ambition to take her game to an even higher level made a move to the U.S. a logical next step.
Academic strength beyond the field
Suus is not only strong on the field, but also in the classroom. She completed VWO, attended three years of bilingual education and earned her Cambridge B2 and C1 certifications. With a 3.79 GPA and an interest in architecture, she looked for a university that could challenge her academically and athletically.

Successful launch in the US
Suus felt right at home at ODU. She picked up many playing minutes and quickly stood out in the league. She now has several Conference Awards to her name as well as being named captain for the 2025-2026 season, an exceptional achievement for a third-year student-athlete.
Looking to the future
With a strong academic background, a top sports mentality and a proven track record, Suus is ready to continue to grow, on and off the field. Her story shows what is possible when talent, ambition and the right guidance come together.
