The driven and right winger Julia Ligtvoet is the epitome of dedication. With an impressive work ethic and clear goals in mind, she combined her soccer career at V.V. De Meern with her studies in the Netherlands. Early on, Julia stood out for her dedication, creativity and ability to make a difference on the field. After high school she knew for sure: she wanted to pursue her academic and sporting dreams in America.
Strengths and style of play
Julia is a fast and clever player with an excellent view of the game. Her actions on the flank create danger, she creates chances and exploits them. Besides her technical qualities, her team spirit is indispensable within the team. Julia is self-critical and works specifically on strengthening her physical dueling power and her shot. She wants to keep improving herself and find her ceiling within American college soccer.
From De Meern to the US
During her youth Julia already impressed at the KNVB Region and stood her ground as a base player at V.V. De Meern. Her efforts were rewarded with prizes, important goals and decisive assists. Although she joined Slamstox later in the process, Julia worked very proactively with her parents to find the right match. Thus, Mercyhurst University became her new home: a place where sports and studies come together perfectly.
The move to America
The transition to the American system took some getting used to, but by now Julia feels right at home. She is part of the varsity team, gets a lot of playing time and is developing at lightning speed as a student-athlete. The combination of a good academic program and top sports is a dream come true for her.
