Vera Tops, a 6’0 middle blocker, grew up in Italy and has been playing at a high level for years with Apav Calcinelli-Lucrezia in Serie D. She started playing volleyball at age 11, and since then she has taken her game to the next level by joining stronger clubs and investing heavily in her development.
Strength on the field
With her strong technical game, excellent service and attacking skills, Vera is a dangerous player on the field. Her specialty? The “C” ball behind the playmaker, making the most of her length and 1-legged run-up. In addition, Vera is a real team player who knows how to motivate her team until the last point.
From dream to reality
Vera had a clear mission: to study and play volleyball in America, in an environment where she would also be challenged academically. Thanks in part to her keen interest in biomedical sciences, finding the right university was essential. After good conversations and guidance from Slamstox, she chose Daemen College, where she can perfectly combine her sport and studies.
Slamstox’s role
Slamstox helped Vera connect with coaches, navigate the Italian school system, and choose between different options. In particular, the personal contact and trust between Vera, her parents and Slamstox made the process special.
By now Vera is well accustomed to the American system. She trains hard, studies with pleasure and lives her dream. With her dedication and enthusiasm, she is ready to make the most of her time in America – on and off the field.
