Ebba Piekaar is a Dutch field hockey star who made the move to America via Slamstox. In the summer of 2023, she left for Adelphi University, where she combines her studies with high-level field hockey. What started as a dream became a reality thanks to her dedication and the personal journey she went through with Slamstox.

The start of the process

After graduating from high school in the Netherlands, Ebba began her search for a way to combine her academic ambitions and passion for field hockey. Her goal was clear: get an athletic scholarship, study in a new country, and gain international experience. She played for years at HC Doorn and wanted to take that sports experience to an environment where her personal development would also be central.

The guidance provided by Slamstox

During her search, Ebba came across Slamstox. Together they looked at what the best options were based on her profile, preferences and ambitions. Thus, she was guided through her entire process – from finding suitable universities to making contact with coaches and handling the administrative side. The personal approach gave Ebba confidence and helped her make informed choices.

The choice of Adelphi University turned out to be the right one. It clicked well with the team and coach, and the combination of academics and sports was a perfect fit for what Ebba was looking for.

The move to America

Although the transition to the American system took some getting used to, Ebba soon felt at home. Life on campus, the rhythm of training and studying, and living with teammates got her off to a flying start. In a short time, she not only built athletic experience, but also learned a lot about herself. The people she met there and the new culture made it a unique experience.

A special experience

For Ebba, the journey to America and her time there has been an adventure that has allowed her to grow on all levels. From making tough choices to building a new life on the other side of the world – it’s an experience she wouldn’t have missed for anything.
