Xander Bomert knew at a young age that he wanted to be among the top. A right-handed opposite with impressive jumping power and timing, he already played at the highest Dutch level in the Eredivisie with Talent Team Papendal and was part of the Dutch U19 team. His dream? To become a professional volleyball player. The first step toward that dream was finding an ambitious college volleyball environment in the US.
Challenges and choices
The route to college volleyball was not without its challenges. Xander had completed his high school diploma and took a gap year to focus fully on his sport. During the process, the situation became more complex when a college coach left, so he had to move quickly. Thanks to Slamstox’s connections and personal network, he still found the perfect match: the University of Charleston.
The move to America
Adapting to the American system took some getting used to at first, but Xander adapted with lightning speed. His drive and proactive communication helped him make an immediate impact on his team. This did not go unnoticed: he has since been named “Player of the Week” three times and is making many playing minutes on the varsity team.

Xander has now fully adapted to American volleyball life and continues to develop as a player. With his hard work, physical qualities and top sports mentality, he is well on his way to achieving his ultimate goal of becoming a professional volleyball player.
