Florance de Kroon is an energetic and powerful player who played both as a defender and attacker for Shinty MA1. In the subtop of Dutch field hockey she developed into a true all-round team player. Her commitment, perseverance and love for the sport brought her to Lock Haven University in the United States in 2022, where she will continue to realize her ambitions both academically and athletically.
Passionate from the beginning
Since her first years at Shinty, Florance was part of the selection teams. At the age of 15, she was already training and playing with the first women’s team, growing quickly physically and mentally. Her role as coach of the U12 boys’ team also gave her an extra dose of responsibility and leadership. Florance remained loyal to her club, but knew she could get more out of her field hockey career abroad and consciously chose a university where she could play a lot and develop quickly.
Strong on the field as well as in the classroom
Florance completed her HAVO in 2022 and confidently decided to take on the adventure in the U.S. Although the transition took some getting used to – especially with the intensive sports program – she quickly adapted. Thanks to hard work in the gym and on the field, she quickly earned her place on the team at Lock Haven University. She combined this with a tight study plan that allowed her to earn her degree within 3.5 years.
Ready for the next step
Florance is already looking ahead to an internship in the Netherlands in the spring of 2026 and a possible return to the U.S. to complete her studies. With many playing minutes on the field and academic successes in the classroom, she is well on her way to making the most of her student-athlete adventure.
