Suzan Agterberg is an energetic and smart playmaker from the Netherlands. Despite her height of 1.70m, she is among the most decisive players on her team. In the fall of 2023, she made the move to the United States to combine her studies in Nursing with college volleyball at the University of Charleston.
From youth team to captain
Suzan started playing volleyball at the age of eight. Soon her talent was noticed and after three years in youth teams she was asked to join the first women’s team of Rivo Rijssen. Since then it has been impossible to imagine her out of the base. At the age of 17 she was appointed team captain – a role she still fulfills with conviction.
Quick, smart and combative
What sets Suzan apart is her constant set-up, speed on the ball, and guts in the game. She dares to set up the middle attack from any angle and her defensive effort is contagious for the whole team. In addition, her serve is tactically strong and difficult for any opponent. Her game insight and leadership make her a valuable force on and off the court.

Studying and playing volleyball in the U.S.
After high school, Suzan began studying Nursing in the Netherlands. Soon she knew she wanted to combine her sport and studies in the United States. The search for a university where she could play volleyball and continue her studies was a challenge. Thanks to guidance from Slamstox, she came in contact with University of Charleston – a place that perfectly fit her wishes. The move to America took some adjusting, but Suzan quickly found her niche. She rotated fully with the varsity team and made many playing minutes there as well.
Back as champion
After her year in America, Suzan returned to the Netherlands, to combine her study nursing her with playing volleybal at a high level. With Rivo Rijssen Womens 1 she became champion in the Superdivisie – the second highest level in the Netherlands. Proof of her continuous development as a player and leader.
