Moving to America
Kevan Kamminga knew early on that he wanted to combine his future in basketball with academic growth. In the Netherlands, he played at the highest level with Heroes Den Bosch, where he won the U16 national title with his team. As a strong and versatile power forward, Kevan developed quickly, but he wanted more. His goal was to gain international experience and prepare optimally for college basketball.
To realize this dream, after graduating from Rodenborch College with his VWO degree, Kevan decided to take an intermediate step to an American boarding school. Together with Slamstox, he researched all possibilities and visited several boarding schools. Eventually the choice fell on Perkiomen, where he could get used to American campus life and the intensity of high-level training.

Challenges and perseverance
The transition to the American school system brought challenges. Finding a school that was a good fit for him both academically and athletically took time and patience. In addition, the entry level in American basketball was different than in the Netherlands, so Kevan had to prove himself all over again. Thanks to his perseverance and strong mentality, he quickly found his place on the team and continued to develop.
Slamstox’s role
Slamstox played an important role in Kevan’s journey by guiding him through both college and boarding school options. Thanks to its extensive network, several boarding schools were approached and visited, allowing Kevan to make an informed choice. The quick turnarounds and personal support ultimately ensured he ended up at Perkiomen, the perfect intermediate step toward college basketball.
Kevan has found at Perkiomen the ideal combination between studies and sports. He is getting lots of playing minutes, has developed tremendously and is a fixture on the team. This experience has given him a solid foundation for his eventual move to college basketball. His story shows that with the right guidance and the will to grow, a successful future in America is within reach.
