Lauren Punt knew early on that she wanted to get more out of her sport and studies. Where she started at a smal field hockey club, she took the initiative herself to make the move to a higher level. That drive eventually brought her to Barendrecht A1 and, via Slamstox, even to the United States. In Fall 2022, she began her adventure at Lander University in South Carolina, where she has since become a major force on the varsity team.
Lauren Punt is a great example of what is possible when you combine talent, ambition and perseverance. After finishing VWO she decided to take a gap year, with one goal in mind: to study and play high level field hockey in America. In 2022, that dream became a reality when she began her adventure at Lander University.
High-level field hockey in the U.S.
Lauren’s ambition was to play at the highest level in the United States. She initially targeted NCAA Division 1 universities, but time constraints and limited contact with coaches meant that opportunities there proved limited. Still, she maintained confidence in
Strong on and off the field
At Lander University, Lauren made an immediate impression. She received many playing minutes, rotated on the varsity team and made significant contributions to athletic successes. Her commitment, team spirit and leadership skills were appreciated: now, as a third-year, she has been named captain of the team. An extraordinary achievement that shows how well she has found her niche.
Lauren is also developing strongly outside the field. Her gap year has helped her make focused choices within her academic path. Thanks to a combination of an athletic scholarship and an academic scholarship, she has the opportunity to maximize her potential both athletically and intellectually.

The Role of Slamstox
Slamstox played an important role in Lauren’s journey. Because she started the process a little later, a lot had to happen in a short period of time: approaching universities, providing medical data, contacting coaches and negotiating scholarships. The personal guidance, quick switching and honest communication made all the difference. Even after her placement, contact remained intensive, something both Lauren and her parents found very valuable.
Lauren shows that with the right attitude and guidance, you can go far, even if you don’t come from a big top club or start the process late. By being open to other options and trusting the process, she has landed perfectly at a university where she can continue to develop in all areas.
