From Dutch top division to college volleyball
Axel made his rise in Dutch volleyball at HLB Van Daal / DS, where he developed into a striking and physical outside attacker. With his height of 6’6” and exceptional explosiveness, he is among the most dominant physical players at his position.
His strength, speed and offensive threat early on made him a player who can make a difference at any level.
A complete athlete with international potential
Axel combines his physical qualities with a strong work ethic and a clear focus on development. He is a player who is always looking to improve and is not limited by boundaries.
That mentality brought him to the United States, where he joined the men’s volleyball program at Lincoln Memorial University.

Combining study and sports
In addition to volleyball, Axel studied physical therapy in the Netherlands and earned a 3.0 GPA in high school. He was in his first year of college and was able to take after his credits toward his U.S. academic track.
That academic foundation made it possible to find a pathway in which sports and studies reinforce each other, rather than get in the way.
A process with fast switching moments
The recruitment process faced time constraints and uncertainties, especially around scholarships and academic admission requirements. It was clear at an early stage that things had to move quickly to find the right match.
When LMU came into the picture, there was an immediate and strong click. The positive energy, clear role within the team and opportunities to make an immediate impact were the deciding factors.
Success at LMU
At LMU, Axel grew into a key player within a very successful program. With his team, he managed to win the conference championship for no less than the 8th (!) year in a row. In addition, he was individually awarded the title Player of the Year, a recognition for his impact and consistent level.
His time in the U.S. was marked by plenty of playing time, athletic successes and clear development as a complete volleyball player.

Closing in style and returning to the Netherlands
After a successful college career, Axel concludes his time in the United States with a strong reputation and valuable international experience.
After graduation, he returned to the Netherlands, where he started playing for Dynamo Apeldoorn in the Eredivisie.
Looking to the future
Axel’s story shows how strength, perseverance and daring to make choices lead to success at the international level. From Dutch top division to an award-winning college career and back to the Eredivisie, with still plenty of potential for the future.
