From Laren to the absolute top in America
Milou Heuker knew early on that she wanted to get more out of her field hockey career. She started at a smaller club, but soon made the move to Laren to compete with the best players in the Netherlands. There she played for years at the highest youth level, where her ambition and perseverance were clearly visible. With her VWO diploma in her pocket, the idea grew to combine her sport and studies in America.
Ambition: getting the most out of sport and study
Milou had a clear goal: play field hockey at the highest level, secure an athletic scholarship while building a strong academic foundation. In addition, she wanted to challenge herself with an international experience, even though she knew it would mean missing her family more often.
The process was not without its challenges. For a long time, the right options remained out and making the right choice proved difficult. This changed when Milou participated in a showcase. Here she showed her best side and attracted the attention of several universities. In the end, two completely different options remained, which only made the choice more difficult.

Milou eventually chose the athletic adventure at the University of Connecticut. Even though the program was underperforming at the time, she believed in its potential. That choice worked out extremely well. She is now entering her third year, plays a lot of minutes and has an important role on the team. She is also actively working on her development as a leader within the selection.

A complete college experience
What began as an exciting step to the other side of the world has grown into a complete adventure. Milou combines her studies with top sports thanks to a sports and academic scholarship and now feels completely at home in America. She continues to develop, both on and off the field, and is making the most of her college career.
